Nova Scotia Trail Patrol title change

During the Nova Scotia Trails Federation board of directors meeting on February 11, 2017, a decision was reached to simplify the title of the trail patrol program to the Nova Scotia Trail Patrol.

Trail Patrol members were formerly known as “trail wardens,” which many felt may not convey our passion for trails and our communities or the Trail Patrol’s vital role as ambassadors of trail in Nova Scotia.

The Nova Scotia Trail Patrol is comprised of volunteers from various community trail groups and trail user groups across Nova Scotia. Existing Trail Patrol volunteers are advised to not remove the “trail warden” patch from their vests, but may black out the “warden” part of their patch if they wish. Please keep in mind that marker ink may run in the rain.

Another Trail Patrol training session is coming up in spring 2017; please stay posted for details. A new training manual for the Trail Patrol is under development by NS Trails and will continue to be inclusive of all user types and trails. This requires the manual to be vetted by all user groups and the Risk Management Committee.
